Our miniature dachshund is 13 years old and has started to wobble on her back legs. When we went to the vet, they took x-rays, revealing arthritis in multiple areas of her spine. The vet prescribed pain meds, which briefly relieved her pain but didn't address the jarring effect on her spine, leaving her still wobbly. Concerned it might worsen and lead to surgery, we decided to try a back brace. She has worn it daily since we received it, although we remove it at night for her comfort. Dachshunds tend to sleep in a 'C' shape, which is not ideal for the back.
For sizing, we chose medium since she weighs 11 pounds but is 13 inches long, and it fits perfectly. She didn't resist when I put it on, and we think she even likes it. Initially, she struggled to walk with it, but we playfully call it her 'battle armor' to protect her. Now, there's no more shaking, and she wants to run around and play with her toys again, something she had stopped due to pain and discomfort.
